I bought this book to get a better understanding of what my son is studying in the Boston University masters of public health program with a focus on epidemiology. I loved the book! I am not reviewing it from a technical perspective as I know very little of the medical side. What I enjoyed was learning about the origins of the diseases, and what it took to get the outbreaks under control. As a teenager in the 80s when HIV and AIDS hit the news I remember well all the hysteria and rumors about how people were infected: kissing, touching the same glass a person with AIDS had, etc. I think this would be a good read for anyone interested in learning about the history of some of the worst pandemics of the last 100 years, regardless of one’s understanding of medical terminology.
